Although half of summer has passed already, it feels like it just started in Vancouver mostly because the weather was very gloomy for a good two months in the beginning. Besides the gorgeous outdoor, Vancouver has many events to offer every summer.One of the must see is Celebration of light.

It is an event that last four days around B.C. day long weekend. There are three countries competing for best firework performance on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I remember the first summer I was in Vancouver, my friends brought me to downtown Vancouver, down at the English Bay to see the event. It was the first time, I see the normally empty and quite city filled with people and laughter. Otherwise I can not believe Vancouver has a population of 100,000.

Unlike normal firework, the release and pattern of firework were carefully choreographed to coordinate with music. It was a beautiful combination of music and firework. Watching with a big crowed adds to the affect, especially when everyone awes at the same point and clapps at the same time. The heart almost feels like beating at the same rate with everybody on spot with the moving music flowing in the warm summer air. ( The real firework is so much better with the picture what with the music and all. The movie we took is better but could not post that...)

The other unique experience, is the traffic jam after the firework. Because almost everybody in the Vancouver has come to see the firework, going home usually takes twice as long what with all the cars jamed on the road. There was one time, we were rushing to take a specially scheduled train back home. So many people tried to cram into the train because it was the only express train back to Coquitlam. It felt like the subway in Tokyo that they should need some staff to skillfully stuff people in. (小朋友, do you remember that night? haha)

Almost every year, we will go see the Celebration of light. I have seen it from Kitslano beach, Burnaby mountain, a friend’s porch, Jericho beach. Every time, it was with different company creating memorable moments. Although every year, the celebration happens around the same time, the experience undoubtly, just like the firework, is full of joy and suprises. So my friends, want to come to watch it next year? ^_^

ps. 小朋友 & 佳盁, remember the year before we went to see the firework, we went biking around the stanely park? I still remember the picture where my mom jumped out. Hehe

pps. 佳盁, also one year, your sister and ken got together while thomas and I were still uncertain, eh? So many things have happened in between...
