XMAS OR B-DAY PRESENTS

This is a rather serious movie concerning the role of media. It happend in the 50's where a politian's anti-communist measure stirred up quite a storm. The anchor of CBS newstation taked on issue.
This movie began with the anchor talking about television broadcast should bear a more meaningful role rather than just entertaining audience. Instead of a more neutral stand, this anchor used "excerpts from McCarthy's own speeches and proclamations to criticize the senator and point out episodes where he had contradicted himself. The anchor knew full well that he was using the medium of television to attack a single man and expose him to nationwide scrutiny, and he was often quoted as having doubts about the method he used for this news report."
What interestes me about the movie is not the history but how the media has the power to edit news material, take words or picture out of context and then us it to twist general public's opinion. Nowaday, this is evident on TV espeically during political power struggle. It's quite an ugly scene to see reporters' non-objective comments toward events on TV. The chaos in society is fueled by this kind of un-professionalism act.

A new found at downtown Vancouver due to my recent visit to the central library. It's located on the Granvil street across from Captial 6 theater for anyone that's interested.
This Japanese restaurant features the most authentic Japanese food (as far as I can tell anyway :)The reasone I say this is because when they served me this yummy Nebeyaki udon (鍋燒麵), the waitress did not just put down the dish and leave. She turned the bowl to a certain direction to face me. I know in Japan they always turn the "right" side of the bowl to face the customer although personally I could not tell the difference.
Besides the serving manner, their food is also very delicious. People may think it is a little more pricy than the usual cheap Japanese food we have in Vancouver. But I think it is well worth it. For example, this seafood udon in the picture has all sorts of seafood, eg. shrimp, salmon, halibut and clams. They are big pieces that one can easily see unlike in some other stores that the seafood is so small that it's hard to find. The soup base is also very tasty so it always takes a good 15minutes for them to make this dish. So for a mere $1 dollar more, one can enjoy a very satisfying meal.
Their sushis are very yummy as well. Besides not supersizing the sushis that could not be fit into the mouth in one bite, the art of presenting the food is shown remarkably here in the making of sushi. For example, their dragon roll is topped with grean avocado that looked like dragon scales and they are aligned in the dish to assemble the shape of dragon as well. The freshness of the seafood is impecable as well. Everyone workes in the restaurant is Japanese as well. All in all, this restaurant is a surprising good find.

Vancouver is a super blessed city. When the rest of the canada is still facing the brutal front of cold winter, we are already welcoming cherry blossom among with other flowers. These past two weekends, we were especially lucky to have some long-missed sunshine . The blue skyline decorated with pink cherry blossom (櫻花) along with mild breeze made this felt like a dream.
Every year, around this time, I miss Taiwan so much especially. The smell of fresh grass from people mow their lawns, the happy chriping of birds and the blossoming flowers in the garden all trigger my desire so. It may stem from the fact that I always used to go back home to visit every year after my spring semester when we first moved here.
Unconciously, I am conditioned to long for HOME when spring sets its foot here. Even though, I have lived here for 10 years, I still think Taiwan is my home. Part of me never left the land. The memory, the history, and the friends. Now the calling is just growing strong with the blossoming flowers. I wanna go home~
